ik gebruik fedora 14 32-bits met de PAE-kernel
ik heb 4gb aan geheugen geinstalleerd(kan maximaal 10gb aan geheugen in) maar fedora (ziet) maar 3.1 gb
met de PAE-kernel zou hij alle 4gb moeten kunnen zien en zelfs meer(tot 64 gb zou volgens de documentatie van de PAE-kernel aan geheugen(in theorie)geinstalleerd kunnen worden en zichtbaar worden!
weet iemand hoe dit kan, en hoe ik toch alle geheugen kan gebruiken?

Die 3.1 GB is typisch voor een non-PAE kernel. Weet je zeker dat je de PAE kernel ook draait?

Nee, als uname -r rapporteert dat de PAE kernel draait zit dat wel snor.
Je zou met dmesg kunnen kijken of er tijdens het opstarten bepaalde boodschappen worden gegeven.

Een 32-bits versie ziet van 4gb geheugen jammer genoeg maar 3.1gb, om dus je totale 4gb te kunnen gebruiken moet je de Fedora 64-bit versie hebben, al moet je natuurlijk ook weer geen snelheids wonderen verwachten hé. Very Happy

What is PAE?
"Physical Address Extension is a technology which allows 32 bit operating systems to use up to 64 Gb of memory (RAM), something which is normally achieved by switching to a 64 bit system."

Dus je hebt niet special de 64-bit versie nodig, maar dat wist bianca ook al Smile

Wat je nog kan doen is kijken of je processor PAE ondersteund, zal wel denk ik maar toch ..

cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep -i PAE

Bij de uitkomst moet dan ook PAE ergens tussen staan.

Zo ja ... start je via het bootmenu wel op met de PAE kernel? En geinstalleerd met: yum install kernel-PAE?

Of ... sommige moederboards is een speciale BIOS parameter nodig om meer dan 4GB te herkennen, kan je ook nog eens naar kijken.

Met de PAE kernel kan de volle 4GB (minus het bekende kleine beetje) worden gebruikt. Ik heb 4GB in mijn systeem zitten, draai 32-bits Fedora met PAE kernel en ik heb 4054912 kB geheugen ter beschikking. Voordat ik de PAE kernel installeerde had ik 3.1GB.

Waarom het bij bianca niet werkt weet ik helaas niet.
